Concussion Care and Brain Optimization

TMJD is a condition characterized by a combination of biomechanical dysfunction and pain or discomfort in the jaw area. It can be triggered by various factors, including accidents, dental procedures, or habitual behaviors such as teeth grinding, stress-induced clenching, or poor posture. TMJD frequently manifests alongside symptoms such as discomfort in the neck and shoulders, chronic headaches, clicking sounds in the jaw when opening and closing the mouth, or limited range of motions in the jaw.

Welcome to Our Specialized TMJD Practice

Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMJD) is often multi-factorial, with complexities that may not be entirely resolved through simple musculoskeletal releases. Recognizing the intricate nature of this condition, I have chosen to dedicate my practice exclusively to TMJD.

Concussion Care: My approach to concussion care is evidence-based, and is rooted in a personalized and holistic methodology. I understand that every individual's experience with a concussion is unique, and I tailor my treatment plans to address specific needs by identifying their concussion phenotype (i.e. Vestibular, Cervicogenic, Autonomic,… etc, or a mix of them!). From initial assessment to rehabilitation exercises, I guide my patients through every step of the recovery process. My goal is not just symptom management but fostering resilience and promoting a full return to optimal brain health.

Brain Optimization: Beyond concussion care, I am deeply invested in the concept of brain optimization. I believe that a proactive approach to brain health can enhance cognitive function and overall well-being. Through personalized strategies, including cognitive exercises, nutritional guidance, and lifestyle adjustments, I work with patients to optimize their brain function for peak performance and better quality of life.

Manual Osteopathy

Manual Osteopathy has its origins in the late 19th century when Dr. Andrew Taylor Still founded it in 1874, driven by dissatisfaction with the medical field during that era. Its fundamental philosophy views the body as a whole entity rather than isolating it segment by segment. The primary objective of manual osteopathy is to restore the body's homeostasis, thereby enhancing its natural healing abilities. This approach is non-invasive, gentle, and highly effective. In Canada, Manual Osteopathy particularly focuses on treating musculoskeletal injuries.

Assessment-based treatment

Addressing chronic pain requires a comprehensive approach, as there are no quick fixes. Our aim is to understand you on a personal level, including your medical history, daily habits, lifestyle and even your family's medical history. This thorough understanding is essential to uncover the root causes of your dysfunction and pain. To achieve this, we begin with a comprehensive assessment during your initial appointment. This assessment guides us in setting treatment goals, creating a tailored treatment plan, and ultimately commencing treatment. Additional assessments may also be conducted as needed, whether before, during, or after each treatment session, to continually monitor your progress.

Functional Integrative Acupuncture

You may be familiar with Acupuncture, an ancient and profound treatment modality. Acupuncture follows its unique treatment philosophy, guided by the concept of Meridians—an intricate system representing the flow of energy.

In recent years, research has shed light on the mechanisms underlying the effectiveness of Acupuncture, revealing that its impact extends beyond the traditional understanding of energy flow. Our bodies respond systematically to the stimulus provided by the insertion of needles, facilitating both short-term and long-term effects that persist for up to 48 hours after treatment. This remarkable modality is supported by extensive neuroscience research.

Functional Integrative Acupuncture takes a contemporary approach to this ancient therapy. It is known for its high effectiveness and, importantly, complements Osteopathic treatment.

Today, I consult with patients who present a wide range of unique cases of TMJD, drawing upon over 12 years of clinical experience, extensive education, and a variety of modalities including Manual Osteopathy and needling techniques.

My approach to treatment is truly distinctive. It encompasses intraoral treatment, Functional Integrative Acupuncture, Cranial Osteopathy, and more.
